Earlier today, Monday, June 23, 2025, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Emo, inaugurated the Taskforce on Monitoring of Private Health Facilities and Anti-Quackery; and the Akwa Ibom State Taskforce on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Process Food. The governor performed the functions at the Dakkadai Secretariat, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo through the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John.
The Director of Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), Otuekong Franklyn Isong represents the civil society groups (CSOs) in the Taskforce on Monitoring of Private Health Facilities and Anti-Quackery while, the Convener of Akwa Ibom Human Rights Community, Barr. Clifford Thomas represents the civil society groups (CSOs) in the Taskforce on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Process Food.
The two committees are to work with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health to ensure sanity in the health sector. They are to be answerable to the Commissioner for Health. The teams comprised of seasoned health professionals, members of the civil society groups, members of the Press, the security agencies and other critical stakeholders in the health sector.
