FUTIA: CHRAN URGES TRANSPARENCY IN PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS
The Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has urged public institutions in Nigeria to ensure transparency and accountability in the execution of projects. The CHRAN made this assertion while applauding the management of the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State for constantly adhering to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act (PPA), 2007 in its Bid Opening exercises since inception of the institution.
The Center’s Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, who observed the Financial Bid Opening for Year 2025 TETFUND Intervention for Library Development/2025 TETFUND Zonal Intervention/2025 Capital Appropriation/2022-2024 (Merged) TETFUND Project Maintenance Intervention held on Wednesday, 16th July, 2025, at the University Senate Chamber.
In a letter dated 9th July, 2025, and signed by Umoh Jacob, Ag. Director, Procurement, for the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel, the CHRAN was invited to participate in the exercises as an Observer in line with the PPA 2007.
Speaking after the exercises, the CHRAN observed that the exercises were conducted in accordance with the basic principles applicable to public procurement under the PPA, 2007, which are accountability, fairness, reliability, transparency, ethical standards, and economy.
The exercises were presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel and had the university management team in attendance. The exercises were moderated by the Acting Director of Procurement of FUTIA, Umoh Jacob.
