CHRAN LAUDS FUTIA FOR UPHOLDING PUBLIC PROCUREMENT ACT 

The Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has applauded the management of the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State for constantly adhering to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act (PPA), 2007 in its Bid Opening exercises since inception of the institution.

This assertion was made by the Center’s Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, after observing the Technical Bid Opening for Year 2024 TETFUND Intervention for Library Development; and Technical Bid Opening for 2025 TETFUND Zonal Intervention held on Monday, 7th July 2025, at the University Senate Chamber.

In a letter dated 1st July, 2025, and signed by Umoh Jacob, Ag. Director, Procurement, for the Vice Chancellor,  Prof. Leo Daniel, the CHRAN was invited to participate in the exercises as an Observer in line with the PPA 2007.

Speaking after the exercises, the CHRAN observed that the exercises were conducted in accordance with the basic principles applicable to public procurement under the PPA, 2007, which are accountability, fairness, reliability, transparency, ethical standards, and economy.

The exercises were presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel and had the university management team in attendance. The exercises were moderated by the Acting Director of Procurement of FUTIA, Umoh Jacob. 

It would be recalled that during the June 12 CHRAN’s Annual Public Lecture to mark the 2025 Democracy Day in Nigeria, held on June 13, 2025, at the CHRAN’s Conference Hall in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria was conferred with an Excellence Award for its tendency to Transparency and Accountability in compliance to the Public Procurement Act, 2007, in its Bidding processes.
