The Civil Society Organisation (CSO) committed to accountable leadership and good governance, made the declaration during the inspection tour of the Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency, to assess the performance index of the member representing the zone in the Green Chamber, Hon. Ime Bassey Okon.

LEADERSHIP learnt that a good governance tour of projects executed by federal and state legislators became necessary to track constituency projects meant for constituents across communities.

A communique made available to journalists after the tour and signed by the CHRAN director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong and Barr. Christopher Ekpo, secretary, stressed the need for effective representation in order to address the deficit in social amenities in communities and human capital development.

“Over the years, the CHRAN has been mounting advocacies for good governance, transparency and accountability in government.

“The CHRAN has been holding public office holders accountable to the people by embarking on independent projects tracking/tour to ensure that government projects and projects executed with public funds by public officials are executed according to specifications and done for the best interest of the public,” part of the communique reads.

Some of the project sites visited around the federal constituency included the PCN Primary School, Northern Itam, in Itu LGA, where a 4-classroom block with toilet facility was built and donated by the federal lawmaker;  a 6-classroom block at the Technical College, Ayadehe, Itu LGA and a Solar-powered borehole project at Afaha Itam, also in Itu LGA.

Others were Solar streetlights at the Ikot Obong-Ikot Edok communities in Ibiono Ibom LGA, the construction of a Civic Centre at Idoro, Ibiono Ibom LGA, solar streetlights at Ikpa Ikot Ubo/Ikot Usen Ibiono Ibom LGA, a 1.5 km road (Joshua Uwah Street) linking Mbak Itam III in Itu LGA, and Solar streetlights in Mbak Itam III/Ekit Itam II in Itu LGA.

CHRAN also inspected solar streetlights in Mbiakpan Atan in Ibiono Ibom LGA; solar streetlights in Nung Ukot Itam in Itu LGA and the ongoing construction of Civic Centre in Nkwa Ibiono in Ibiono Ibom LGA.

However, one of the constituents, Mr. Isaac Asuquo Edet, who was fetching water at the Solar-powered borehole at Afaha Itam, Itu LGA, lauded the lawmaker for his effective representation, noting that the intervention has gone a long way in easing the community’s pain.
