CHRAN PRESS RELEASE
ON THE AKWA IBOM STATE POTHOLES TASK TEAM

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed the Director, Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), Otuekong Franklyn Isong into Roads Potholes Identification, Documentation and Evaluation Task Team.
The 7-Man Task Team was inaugurated by the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga on behalf of the Governor at the Ministry of Works and Fire Service on Tuesday, 9th June, 2026.
Terms of Reference are:
- To identify and record all potholes spots in Uyo Metropolis.
- To evaluate potholes and failed portions of roads already remediated.
- To evaluate the level of deterioration of the potholes/failed portions, the scope of weakness, the possible cause of potholes/failure of road portion viz-a-viz the age of the pavement of the road/failed portion of road.
- To recommend the most possible and cost-effective remedy for the pothole/failed portion of road.
- To draw up draft estimates for patching, overlay or otherwise of the pothole/failed portion.
- To carry out any other functions related to the terms of reference above as may be assigned from time to time to the Task Team.
The Task Team which is to cover Uyo Metropolis includes Engr. Ottobong Udonya (Ministry of Works, Task Team Lead), Mr. Iniobong Akpan (SSA to Governor on Public Works), Engr. Idongesit Ben (Ministry of Works), Mr. Itoro Etti (NUJ representative), Representative of Governor’s Monitoring Team Engr Ime Akpan, Otuekong Franklyn Isong (CHRAN), and Mr. Blessed Essien (SA to Governor on Public Works, Member/Secretary).
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Fire Service, Mr. Ignatius A. Ekwere was present at the event.
Speaking at the event, the CHRAN Director commended the governor for setting up the Task Team, asserting that the CHRAN, being a good governance advocacy organisation in Nigeria, will contribute effectively for the realization of the Terms of Reference of the Task Team, in order to ensure that road infrastructure in Uyo metropolis wears a better look during the administration of Governor Umo Eno.
